Now is the time to get involved. Join us in making a difference!

We have formed committees to work in a number of important areas and we need members to sign up to serve on on the committees. Our areas of focus are:

  • Criminal Justice and Prison Reform

  • Community and Economic Development

  • Health and General Welfare

  • Civic Engagement

    • Voting Rights and Elections

    • Advocacy in the form of Lobbying activities, Letter Writing and Phone Calling

    • Coalition Building and Community Outreach

    • Community Forums on Racial and Economic Justice

Some of our accomplishments include:

  • Initiating legislation to eliminate bans against people with felony convictions from obtaining occupational licenses that was signed into law in September 2018;

  • Successfully advocated for:

    • Legislation to eliminate cash bail;

    • The early release of prisoners in California prisons due to the Corona virus and providing all prisoners with facial masks;

    • Expanded mental health services in prisons;

    • The expansion of the Parole Board plus the addition of more women and more mental health workers on the Board;

    • Finding employment for people being released from prison;

    • Alternative sentencing in order to emphasize rehabilitation and not incarceration.

  • Bridging divides and building community, understanding, relationships and solidarity across race, ethnicity, class, and faith through meetings, volunteer activities and Forums on Racial and Economic Justice.

  • Partnered with and participated in various GOTV campaigns locally, regionally, and nationally.

We invite energetic and committed people who can bring their energy, enthusiasm and expertise to bear in our efforts to contribute to a more just and equitable community and country. Please sign up to work with us on one of our committees. Go to www.SFUnityGroup.org for more information.
