CA Senate Bill 17

The San Francisco Black & Jewish Unity Coalition supports California Senate Bill 17 which establishes the Office of Racial Equity. This measure declares racism as a public health crisis and establishes the Office of Racial Equity (ORE) and the Racial Equity Advisory and Accountability Council (REAAC). The goal of these offices is to coordinate and lead the state’s strategies for advancing racial equity across state agencies and departments. SB 17 will also require the ORE to develop a Racial Equity Framework for the state and direct state agencies to develop and adopt Racial Equity Action Plans.

We support SB 17 because racism is a public health crisis.

We support an Office of Racial Equity because communities of color get hit first and worst by climate disasters.

The San Francisco Black & Jewish Unity Coalition supports SB 17 because we need accountability and transparency in Sacramento.

We support an Office of Racial Equity because we want our hard-fought and hard-won equity gains to be protected for years to come.

We want a state government that is authentically responsive to communities of color and embraces accountability in creating a more equitable and just California.

We want a state government that leads with, embodies, and delivers on racial equity.

Californians of color will heal, recover, and thrive with a state government that is fully committed and accountable to racial equity. SB 17 is the means to achieve this.
